It has certainly been a challenging, but important year so far. I was discussing with friends the other day that as much as staying at home due to COVID has been tough, I have learned some very valuable lessons. I would love to hear what you have learned from staying home.
1- The biggest one for me has been to slow the F down. Pre-quarantine, every weekend my husband and I had something booked. And while many of those things were very fun and important, we had lost the balance of having some down time. Having a weekend off, with not much planned, is so important. It lets you recharge your batteries, get chores done around the house, and connect with each other. I used to worry that if we didn’t have something booked for the weekend I would be bored… it has been the opposite. I am actually able to have a relaxing weekend morning with my coffee and a crossword, the house is clean, and I feel recharged going into the work week.
2- I have also learned how important it is to stay connected to family and friends who may live father away by prioritizing time for a phone call or facetime chat. It’s not as hard as we make it seem.
3- I have learned to appreciate how nice it is to be able to get dressed up to go out somewhere. It’s fun to put contacts in, do my makeup and wear a cute outfit. I can’t wait to get dressed up with somewhere to go!
4- I have realized I don’t need a gym to stay fit. I thought that I couldn’t weight train without a gym. In fact, all I needed was a towel, a chair and some adaptable dumbbells. I was able to do everything I wanted to at home!
Quarantine also got me to try some new types of exercise. For years I have had the same routine of exercise I liked – strength training, running, and yoga. I hadn’t really sought out or bothered to try any new types of exercise in a long time. Quarantine has forced me to get creative and try some new types of exercise. Tori and I have gotten super into High fitness (dance based cardio and toning workouts) thanks to a recommendation by our friend Emma. We have also really enjoyed MadFit workouts which includes at home workouts using limited equipment as well as song workouts.
